Experience prior to joining Evans & Langford?
22 years. I worked for a number of consulting engineer’s practices, as well as two local authorities, in my native Australia prior to moving to the UK in 1999 (with the aim of undertaking two years of backpacking). Since then I have worked for two national house builders, with a stint at Kent County Council and a consulting engineer in between. For a number of years I also lectured at a local college, having developed their BSc Civil Engineering programme.
How have you utilised your knowledge to help a client?
In many instances there are a number of design solutions that are possible, particularly in relation to SuDS drainage. This is where I can use my experience to guide the client with suggestions that offer benefits either from an environmental or financial perspective, and ideally both. Often it is not always the obvious solution which is best suited to a project.
Outside of work – What are your interests?
The resident Aussie sports nut. I play rugby for Maidstone Veterans (and on the Tour Committee) and am also one of the junior coaches, captain of a local tennis team, occasionally play cricket, and cycle each day to work. I enjoy travelling (still getting my backpack out), camping, trail running and attending music festivals.
